Nature
Doane University Osterhout Arboretum spans 300 acres across the Doane University campus in Crete, Nebraska, combining landscaped grounds, wooded areas, and preserved plantings in a broad campus garden. Officially rededicated on May 9, 2002, it honors M. David Osterhout, a 1937 graduate and longtime college employee who served in senior leadership roles and was closely connected to campus landscaping and plant preservation. Its grounds include special gardens, historic tree groves, lakes, fountains, an outdoor amphitheater, and nature trails. Since 1979, Doane University has also participated in the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum, linking the site to a broader effort to promote knowledge, appreciation, and conservation of Nebraska plants.
