World War II lasted from December 7, 1941, to December 31, 1946. America is free because of the courage, sacrifices, and lives of the men and women who fought and died from the Atlantic to the Pacific, on ships, beaches, and streets, in the air, on desert islands, in mountains, and in jungles, in Europe, Asia, and Africa, from Pearl Harbor to Hiroshima. To them, America is forever indebted.
