Founded by the Thomas Bay family, settlers from Tennessee, Bay's Chapel Methodist Church began with a first log church built in 1851 on a site across the road donated by A.F. Bay; that building also served as a school. The present building, on land given by W.H. Bay, was dedicated in 1899.
