The Lincoln Highway, America's first trans-continental route, officially opened in June 1915 amid widespread local celebrations. Originally, the highway, U.S. Route 30, entered East Liverpool through the city's East End, but later alterations caused it to cross into the city by way of the Chester Bridge. Henry Osterman, the Public Relations Director of the Lincoln Highway, lived in East Liverpool and, after his death in a car accident, was buried in Riverview Cemetery.
