Texas City Prairie Preserve is a 2,300-acre protected coastal prairie and wetland preserve in Texas City along Moses Lake and Galveston Bay near Houston. Established in 1995 after ExxonMobil donated the land to the Nature Conservancy, it was created mainly to aid the endangered Attwater's prairie chicken while safeguarding broader coastal prairie habitat and wildlife. Limited public access includes a small trail on about 40 acres, with most of the site open only for organized tours, birding events, and volunteer work. Part of the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail, the preserve later became controversial because oil and gas wells were developed there, and by 2012 its Attwater's prairie chickens were gone.
