This site was the location of Stellenwerf's Lake House Hotel from 1856 to 1894, then of a mansion built by H.K. Knapp in 1903. It remained part of the Knapp and Thorne estates until 1941, and from 1942 to 1995 it served as the Orphan Asylum of Brooklyn.
