Mission on the Missisquoi was built by the Jesuits westward on the river-bank. Here was the region's oldest and largest Indian settlement. First it served the Abnakis, driven from Maine in the 1680's. Lasting until 1775, it became the longest lived of the French settlements in Vermont.
