A London plane tree grew from seed collected from the parent trees on Ellis Island at the base of the Statue of Liberty. The Ohio Department of Agriculture, with the cooperation of the United States Park Service, donated the tree as a seedling in 1989 to the Williamsport Arbor Day Committee. The Williamsport Sorosis Club donated the plaque on Arbor Day 1994.
