Jerome State Historic Park in Jerome centers on the Douglas Mansion, a prominent 1916 house built above the Little Daisy Mine by mining entrepreneur James S. “Jimmy” Douglas as a family home and a place to entertain officials and investors. Built of adobe bricks made on the site and described as Arizona’s largest adobe structure, it preserves one of Jerome’s best-known historic buildings and interprets the town’s copper-mining era and the Douglas family’s role in it. Donated to the State of Arizona in 1962, the mansion became the core of a park opened in 1965 and now serves as a museum despite a temporary closure and renovation in 2009–2010.
