In 1905, Jerome's jail was in the basement of what was then the Tony Kauzlarich House below the Dicus and Wagner Garage, with Louis St. James serving as magistrate and conservator of the peace. What is believed to be Jerome's third jail later stood in the town yard between Main Street and Hull Ave. After pulling apart from the wood structure to which it was attached, it slowly crept 225 feet during the slides in the mid 30's, settling in the middle of Hull Avenue and forcing the road to be altered around it. Although legend says it continued moving to its final resting place, it was eventually pushed from Hull Avenue to its present location.
