Harry Whyel was revered as the donor of the property that made the Jumonville Training Center possible. In December 1922, he became sole owner of the former Orphans School property. On June 10, 1941, he presented the deed for 179 acres and 12 buildings to the Pittsburgh Conference Methodist Church for a training center. President of the Whyel Coal and Coke Company, a civic leader, and a leading member of Asbury Methodist Church in Uniontown, he lived to see Jumonville developed and said, "I have never done anything that has brought me as much joy as the gift of this property for our Methodist Training Center."
