Antelope Valley Indian Museum State Historic Park in the Mojave Desert of northern Los Angeles County preserves both a distinctive historic building and extensive Native American collections. Built in 1928 by homesteader and artist H. Arden Edwards as a chalet-style folk art house over Piute Butte, it later became a museum devoted chiefly to the cultures of the Great Basin and nearby regions, with exhibits also reaching into the Southwest and California. Its collections, including materials gathered by Edwards and later owner Grace Oliver, feature rare artifacts and emphasize cultural interpretation alongside objects. Outdoor and live programs add hands-on learning, making the site an active educational and cultural center.
