Saddleback Butte State Park is a protected California desert landscape in the Antelope Valley of the western Mojave Desert in Southern California. Centered on Saddleback Butte, a prominent landform rising to 3,651 feet, the park encompasses more than 2,955 acres of Joshua tree habitat. Established in 1960, it preserves part of the Mojave’s natural history and a broad desert setting defined by the butte. Local activist and conservationist Jane S. Pinheiro played a key role in securing protection for the area by persuading the California State Assembly to set aside the land. Originally named Joshua Tree State Park, it was later renamed to avoid confusion with Joshua Tree National Monument.
