Zane Grey's former riverfront home in Lackawaxen Township, Pennsylvania, became a museum preserving the building, its setting, and materials connected with the novelist and his family. Grey began the house in 1905 after finding the site on a fishing trip, then expanded it in 1912 with a writing studio and library after the success of Heritage of the Desert and Riders of the Purple Sage. The two-part house retains many original features, including fireplaces, staircase details, and a painted library frieze reflecting Grey's interest in the American Southwest. After Grey moved to California in 1918, he kept the house, which later served as an inn before becoming a museum.
