Slave Cabin Area
History
5
The slave cabin sites reflect the lives of enslaved Africans whose forced labor built and operated this plantation. According to the 1830 U.S. Census, 40 cabins were home to 197 men, women, and children. The cabins were arranged in a semi-circular pattern centered around the main plantation house, and many plantation buildings, including the stables and kitchens, stood within the quarter-mile arc of cabins.
