Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at Flagler Beach is a 144-acre Florida state park on a narrow barrier between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway. Named for Florida folk singer and guitarist Gamble Rogers, it honors his death on October 10, 1991, when he entered heavy surf and riptides off Flagler Beach after a child’s plea for help and tried to rescue a Canadian tourist; both men drowned. The park now offers coastal camping, access to inland waters by boat ramp and basin, trails, picnic areas, and beach recreation, with swimming, fishing, paddling, boating, bicycling, wildlife viewing, and seasonal sea turtles among its attractions.
