This site was an ante-bellum trading post. In 1840, Duncan Giddens constructed the dam, and Miles J. Guest acquired it in 1858 and enlarged it. Its water power operated a grist mill and gin. From 1850 to 1920, it served as an election precinct, and a Justice of the Peace court met here for the area that is now Clinch, Atkinson, and Coffee counties. One-quarter mile east is Guest Mill Pond Cemetery, where Lewis Sanders Nobles, a Revolutionary soldier who died in 1856 at age 96, is buried. John Williams, C.S.A., was killed by a deserter near here in 1864.
