Jemez National Recreation Area is a protected landscape in northern New Mexico within the Santa Fe National Forest, managed by the U.S. Forest Service through the Jemez Ranger District. Established in 1993, it covers 57,650 acres and adjoins Valles Caldera National Preserve, with some private land inside its boundaries. The area is managed for outdoor recreation such as fishing, camping, rock climbing, hunting, and hiking, while mining is prohibited except on pre-existing claims. It also remains culturally important to Jemez Pueblo, requiring federal consultation on cultural and religious sites and allowing some areas to close for traditional uses.
