In the early 1870's, citizens of the Town of Kernersville contributed physical labor to construct over four miles of track, bringing the railroad to and through Kernersville, increasing commerce, and helping raise the census from 100 in 1870 to 500 in 1880 and 1,000 by 1888. Jule Korner was recognized not only as the designer and builder of the local landmark Korner's Folly, but also as one of the first designers of large-scale outdoor advertising, painting with his crews scores of Bull Durham advertisements on buildings across the country during the 1880's. The Railroad Street Mural depicts the coming of the railroad, Jule Korner's Bull Durham advertising, and Jule's artistic rendering of The Folly.
