Built in 1965 of steel, this decompression chamber has skids and lifting eyes to secure it on a deck, along with the pressure gauges, fittings, valves, and portholes needed to adequately decompress a diver. As a diver works at great depths, the cells in the diver's body become saturated with oxygen and helium, and the diver must decompress after every dive so breathing gas can be removed from the cells. This is an early model with few comforts, and the U.S. Navy later developed new decompression chambers that are more comfortable for the diver.
