Snow Mountain is an extinct stratovolcano in northern California’s Cascade Range, in Shasta County, near Redding, Shasta Lake, and Mount Shasta. It belongs to an older phase of regional volcanism and formed before Lassen Peak, one of the active volcanic centers farther south in the Cascade arc. Over time, erosion has greatly reduced its original form. Snow Mountain is understood alongside Green Mountain and Clover Mountain as remnants of the same eroded stratovolcano, so it endures today not as a sharply defined cone but as part of an older volcanic landscape preserved in the surrounding high country.
