McCulloch County was organized in 1876 with Brady as the county seat, and its first courthouse was built in 1879. The present courthouse, the second on the same site, was completed in 1900 by Moodie and Moodie under a turn-key construction arrangement. Local labor and materials were used as far as practical, including native sandstone from local quarries. The building features modified Roman architecture employing an arch vault, a Victorian cupola, and pine woodwork and flooring at the time of construction.
