Lake Mojave was a prehistoric freshwater lake in the Mojave Desert of southeastern California, occupying the basins now called Silver Lake and Soda Lake. Fed by the Mojave River with water ultimately derived from precipitation in the San Bernardino Mountains, it existed roughly between 22,000 and 9,000 years before present during wetter late Pleistocene and early Holocene conditions. Though relatively shallow, it reached about 300 square kilometres in extent and left visible shore features that still mark its presence. Its disappearance came with warmer, drier Holocene conditions, and its former shores are also important archaeologically for evidence of early people and the Lake Mojave artifact complex.
