Willis and Barbara Herron were the original owners and founders of the World’s Tallest Thermometer. Built in 1991, it stands 134 feet tall, representing the world’s hottest recorded temperature, 134 degrees, on July 10, 1913, in Death Valley, California. After it fell, it was rebuilt in 1992 and was sold in 2000. Herron’s widow, Barbara Herron, regained ownership and repaired the thermometer in 2014 in a project dubbed “The Big Fix,” and it was relit on July 10, 2014.
