Built in 1854, this log cabin was lived in continuously through 1964. Its interior contains two rooms, with a kitchen on the ground floor and a bedroom above. It was constructed of hand-hewn logs, dovetailed, with each log marked near the end with Roman numerals to match like-numbered logs at the corners. The cabin retains all original materials except the roof and downstairs floor. Originally it stood one and one-half miles west of Ridgeway in a grove near a spring not far from the Turkey River. The first owner was Gunder Kittleson, and it was later owned by Magnus Ringoen. At one time two families lived in the cabin. It was rented to several families, including Sam Kuntz. In 1897 it was rented to Albert Soukup, who purchased it in 1907. After the deaths of Mr. and Mrs. Soukup, their son James Soukup took it over and lived there with his family until 1956, when they sold it to Mr. and Mrs. Don Carolan. Don and Mrs. Carolan donated the cabin to the Howard County Historical Society, and with city council funds administered through the City Park Commission, it was moved to Beadle Park in November 1964. The original shake shingles had rotted and been replaced by a tin roof, and the roof was restored with shake shingles in 1965.
