Mount Prater is a high Sierra Nevada summit in eastern California, rising to 13,471 feet on the boundary between Fresno and Inyo counties and between Kings Canyon National Park and the John Muir Wilderness. It stands just south of the Palisades and rises sharply above nearby terrain, with drainage flowing east toward Tinemaha Reservoir and south to the South Fork Kings River. Named for University of California mathematics professor and mountaineer Alfred William Prater, it was first recorded as climbed by Prater and his wife in 1928, officially named in 1930, and later became a notable objective in Sierra mountaineering through new routes and its place on the Sierra Peaks Section list.
