Mount Bolton Brown is a prominent high Sierra summit on the crest of California’s Sierra Nevada, straddling Fresno and Inyo counties and the boundary between Kings Canyon National Park and the John Muir Wilderness. Ranked among California’s highest peaks, it rises steeply above nearby terrain and sends runoff into several major watersheds. Its alpine climate reflects Pacific storms lifted over the range, bringing snow and rain. The mountain is named for Bolton Coit Brown, a Sierra Club charter member known for exploring, mapping, and writing about the upper South Fork Kings River basin. Since its first recorded ascent in 1922, additional non-technical routes and access from the John Muir Trail have kept it of lasting interest to climbers.
