Nunnlea was built by Peter Funk around 1855 for his daughter Harriet Funk Hise. The grounds include the original brick smokehouse and slave quarters. The side wing and front porch were later additions. Once visited by President Herbert Hoover, it was purchased by the Beautification League of Louisville and Jefferson County in 1962 for its headquarters.
