Dyck Arboretum of the Plains is a 29-acre botanical garden at Hesston College in Hesston, Kansas, established on October 11, 1981, to showcase native Kansan plants and trees. Focused on the plant life of the central North American grasslands, it has grown to include more than 600 species of native and adaptable trees, shrubs, wildflowers, and grasses. Its displays represent the region’s major grassland biomes, including Great Plains wildflowers, a buffalograss meadow, and tallgrass, shortgrass, and mixed-grass prairie beds. As a college teaching landscape, it preserves and interprets prairie plants while supporting both horticultural and educational goals.
