Mount Lukens, in the San Gabriel Mountains above the Crescenta Valley in Los Angeles's Sunland-Tujunga area, rises 5,075 feet as the highest point within Los Angeles city limits. Its prominence gives the city an unusually wide elevation range and has made the summit an important communications hub, with television, radio, and cellular towers serving much of the surrounding region. The peak stands in Angeles National Forest and was named for Theodore Lukens, a former forest supervisor and later mayor of Pasadena. Earlier it was called Sister Elsie Peak, a name preserved on a 1925 U.S. Forest Service map. The area was also affected by the 2009 Station Fire.
