Windmill Point Light stands on the Windmill Point peninsula in Vermont as the northernmost lighthouse on Lake Champlain. Along with Isle La Motte Light, it helps define the channel through the lake’s center. A private beacon first stood here in 1830, and the present octagonal tower and attached keeper’s house were built in 1858. In 1931 the light moved to an automated beacon on a steel tower, and the older building later served customs agents during Prohibition for anti-smuggling work. After passing into private ownership, the station was revived in 2002, when a solar-powered beacon returned to the historic tower, where it remains active.
