Developed by Julius O. Frost (1839-1913), an enterprising landowner, farm and grain merchant, this 8-acre summer amusement area opened in 1895. A Lincoln Cabin replica, pavilion, gazebos, and novel trolley-wire ride were set within scenic grounds. Served by a nearby railroad flagstop, its dances, suppers, picnics, fireworks, musicals, plays, and religious meetings attracted thousands. After a gradual decline, the park closed in the 1930s. Earlier, the town pound stood on this land, which had formerly been owned by Dr. Cyrus Washburn, Vernon's first resident physician.
