Organized on September 25, 1879, this congregation first met in a church building on land donated by Mr. Middleton 2.5 miles southeast, with the condition that it be named Alma Hall in memory of his daughter. Alma Hall was shared with a Masonic Lodge and a Methodist congregation. Elder Isaac McMurray served as pastor until 1884, when the church merged with Ebenezer Church. Soon after that consolidation, the congregation moved to the railroad town of Aledo, where members worshiped in the community schoolhouse until a sanctuary was completed at this site in 1891. In 1913, that building was replaced by a larger structure built under the supervision of Joe Hopkins with assistance from church members. Later additions were made as the congregation continued to grow. For more than a century, the church has been instrumental in the development of the surrounding area, with pastors including many prominent Baptist preachers and members serving actively as community leaders while its programs continued to reflect the ideals of its pioneer founders.
