On February 7, 1937, Woodstock Ski Runners first held its annual individual slalom race at this location at Suicide Six on the trail now known as “The Face.” That year, Elizabeth Fisk, a Ski Runners parent whose daughters Margaretta and Ursula became members of the Women’s U.S. Ski Team, donated a silver bowl trophy, and the slalom has since been named the Fisk Trophy Race. The Fisk is the country’s longest running FIS Slalom race and the longest running alpine ski race held at one location in the United States. Past participants include Olympians, U.S. Ski Team members, and NCAA champions. The Fisk remains a rite of passage for major eastern ski racers.
