Grand Haven, Michigan, was officially designated as Coast Guard City U.S.A. by Public Law 105-383, signed by President Clinton on November 13, 1998. The United States Coast Guard traces its origins to August 4, 1790, when Congress created the Revenue Cutter Service, the forerunner of the United States Coast Guard. The text celebrates 225 years of service from 1790 to 2015 and names ADM Robert J Papp, Jr., 24th Commandant, ADM Paul F. Zukunft, 25th Commandant, Admiral Karl L. Schultz, 26th Commandant, ADM Linda L Fagan, first female Commandant, and CDR Michael J Smith, USCG (Retired), Executive Director of the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival.
