The memorial was dedicated to the armed services men and women of the Spring Valley area who volunteered their lives to preserve the freedom of the country. In 2003, Dominic O'Berto Post #182 of The American Legion in Spring Valley, Illinois, received a Hall of Fame Award for the construction and dedication of a Veterans Memorial Park.
