Alander Mountain is a 2,241-foot peak in the south Taconic Mountains on the Massachusetts–New York border, with an open summit above mostly forested slopes. Hiking routes cross the mountain, especially the South Taconic Trail, and its lands are divided among Taconic State Park, Mount Washington State Forest, and private holdings. The ridge also marks the highest point in Columbia County, New York. Alander played a small role in regional conservation history when a steel fire lookout tower was built there in 1927 to watch for fires on public and private lands. After the site lease ended in 1930, the tower was removed and later reassembled on other nearby mountains.
