On March 3, 1860, at the Wayne County Republican Convention in Fairfield, Illinois, Republicans of Wayne County resolved that Hon. Abe Lincoln was their unanimous choice for the presidential nomination of the National Convention at Chicago. The resolution was issued under Chairman C. Sibley and Secretary Wm. H. Robinson as the first official endorsement of Abraham Lincoln for President of the United States.
