The Gasworks was built in 1856 as a gas holder and gas processing facility for the City of Northampton. It was restored in 1986 by Robert G. Curran, a civil engineer and native of Northampton. One of seven such existing structures in the U.S., it gained statewide recognition through its restoration. The Gasworks was Curran's last and most cherished project.
