Timothy Matlack was a Revolutionary patriot, state official, and member of the Continental Congress in 1780-81. He was colonel of a rifle battalion of the Philadelphia Associators in 1775-76 and served in the Battle of Princeton. In 1781, he was a founder of the Society of Free, or Fighting, Quakers. He was a member of the Constitutional Convention of Pennsylvania in 1776, secretary of its Supreme Executive Council from 1777 to 1782, and Master of the Rolls from 1800 to 1809. He died April 14, 1829, was buried in Philadelphia, and was reinterred near here in 1905.
