Todd's Chapel United Methodist Church

The congregation's origins reach back to the American Revolution, when Methodist pioneers including Francis Asbury and Freeborn Garrettson traveled through the area organizing worship societies, with many early meetings held in the homes of members such as Levin Todd. On March 6, 1803, Todd and other representatives of the local society bought land at this location from Olive and Mary Jump for a permanent place of worship, and a frame chapel was later built there and named in his honor. That first structure remained in use until it was replaced in 1858 by the present Greek Revival church, which was formally dedicated on May 30th of that year. The church was later expanded with the completion of the adjoining Sunday School addition in 1966, and Todd's Chapel was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on September 14, 1998.
