An 1878 railway work camp became the town of Lyon's Station in 1880, named for site donor W.A. Lyon. It soon had three cotton gins, an oil mill, and many businesses. In 1894 it hosted the first automobile ever seen in this county, offering rides for the daring. It is now the gateway to Lake Somerville Recreation Area.
