Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument preserves a protected paleontological landscape in the Upper Las Vegas Wash near Las Vegas, Nevada. Established in 2014, it covers 22,650 acres of the Tule Springs area, where Ice Age fossils occur in notable concentrations. Scientific interest began in 1933 after quarry workers uncovered a Columbian mammoth, and later discoveries revealed evidence of ancient life dating from about 7,000 to 250,000 years ago. Fossils found here include Camelops, ground sloth, dire wolf, Teratornis, Smilodon fatalis, and American lion, making the area an important record of prehistoric Mojave environments. The wash also supports patches of the rare Las Vegas bear poppy.
