Sand Bar State Park in Milton occupies fifteen acres on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain at the end of a natural sandbar near the causeway carrying U.S. Route 2. Established in 1933 as Vermont’s sixth state park, it was the first created on land bought under a 1929 state law. Civilian Conservation Corps crews transformed the former marshland in the 1930s, most notably building the large stone bathhouse and a surviving stone grill. The bathhouse remains largely intact and in use, helping earn a roughly 4.5-acre section National Register listing in 2002. The park also serves as a popular beach and recreation area linked to surrounding protected lakeshore habitat.
