The A. P. Johnson House in Delavan, Wisconsin, stands on six acres along Lake Delavan and was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, then completed in 1905. A work from his Prairie School period, it shows his shift away from more classical forms toward the mature Prairie style through its broad low shape, wide eaves, horizontal siding, casement windows, and porches that stretch parallel to the lake. Inside, a large central living space was anchored by a Roman brick fireplace, with bedrooms upstairs. Though the interior was updated in the early 1980s, the exterior remains largely true to its original appearance and is closely tied to lore about Wright’s intended dark finish.
