Fred B. Jones House
Arts & Culture
Penwern, a historic lakeside estate in Delavan, Wisconsin, was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for Chicago businessman Fred Jones as a weekend retreat and summer entertaining place on Lake Delavan. Built between 1900 and 1903, with the main house completed in 1901, the estate belongs to an early stage in Wright’s career, when his architectural ideas were still developing. Its buildings were individually distinctive yet tied to the landscape, showing his growing interest in natural settings and horizontal form. The house and surviving companion structures are significant as an unusually complete early Wright composition.
