Buffalo Harbor South Entrance Light at Stony Point marked the entrance to Buffalo Harbor on Lake Erie as part of the city’s navigation system. Established in 1903, the station included a three-story cast-iron light tower with a lantern, a concrete fog signal building, and an L-shaped concrete pier, all built to guide vessels safely at night and in poor visibility. The light was deactivated in 1993 and replaced by a nearby modern post light, but the station endured as a notable piece of Buffalo’s waterfront infrastructure. In 2007, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its maritime role and unusual completeness as an early-20th-century harbor light station.
