South Buffalo North Side Light is a small lighthouse that once marked the entrance to Buffalo Harbor in Buffalo, New York. First lit on September 1, 1903, it was one of the harbor’s two distinctive bottle-shaped beacons. Built of boiler plate, the twenty-nine-foot structure narrowed sharply from a broad base to a narrow top and was distinguished by cast-iron port windows and a curved iron door. Originally fitted with a 6th-order Fresnel lens, it was later modernized with a battery-operated twelve-volt lamp and green plastic lens. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, it was removed in 1985 and survives as a rare example of this unusual lighthouse form.
