James G. Hardy was a politician and outstanding orator who came to Barren County at an early age. He was born in Virginia in 1795 and is buried near here. A surveyor and teacher, he represented Barren County in the Kentucky Legislature for many years. The town of Hardyville in Hart County was named for him. He was elected Lieutenant Governor in August 1855 and served one year until his death in 1856.
