Round Island Light served Round Island in the Mississippi Sound near Pascagoula, where a poorly sited first tower gave way to a second lighthouse completed in 1859. Its Fresnel lens and elevated light helped mariners reach Pascagoula Harbor, though its role was less as a major landfall beacon than as a local navigational aid. During the Civil War, Confederate soldiers removed the lens for safekeeping. Automated in 1944 and later deactivated, the station declined from neglect and erosion. After hurricanes destroyed the tower on the island and disrupted reconstruction, salvaged remains were moved ashore and restored in Pascagoula, where it now stands as a preserved symbol of the city's maritime heritage.
